General information

As part of our planning for our trip we looked around on the web at other peoples web sites and used that to shape our own site as well as our travel plans. If you are planning a trip yourself we hope that you find our site useful. If you are simply looking around out of interest, we hope you enjoy following our travels around the world and that it maybe gives you itchy feet to set off yourself.

I am sure there are people who pack up and go with just a few days or weeks to sort themselves out. Our planning took a bit longer than that as we debated whether, where and when to go. You can see what we eventually got up to by following our diaries and pictures on other parts of this site.

Here we have tried to pull together into an easy reference section the planning and thinking we did. It is by no means comprehensive but hopefully is food for thought.

About us

A few words from each of us for those who don't know us or need a reminder.

Why go?

Our rationale and justification for taking a year out of our normal routine.

Where do you start?

How do you make the dream a reality?

The send-off

Saying au revoir to family and friends.

Weather

Uneventful in Uruguay? Cold in Canada? Monsoon in Malaysia? Balmy in Botswana? See how our expectations of the weather impacted our plans.

What are we taking?

Funny, but before we went this was a big topic. You try to compensate for lack of experience and confidence by buying "stuff". In the end we went with what we thought would be a sensible minimum, and still ended up taking too much!

World clock

Couldn't think where else to put this so it went here. A handy "world clock" that shows you the time across the world. Like those fancy wall clocks you see in corporate meeting lounges.

Web site

See how Stef went about creating our site including hosting, design and the tools used. Beware though, it takes time (lots of it) so be realistic.

Links

Not just links but also references that are somehow relevant: books, music, etc.

Contact us

Says it all really Want to get in touch? We'd love to hear from you.

Quirky places

Do you sometimes look at a map and find a curiously named spot that catches your attention?
