November 2006

A patchy entry for this month as I wasn't yet in the habit of keeping a normal diary.

Sun 5 Nov

Rob, Alison, Mark, Eliza and Brian came over to ours for dinner.

Mon 6 Nov

Another walk with Mark, glorious autumn colours. Copied from Mark’s site:

Ben Vorlich summit ridge & wind turbines"Stef came over and we did Ben Vorlich from Advorlich, accessible now the bridge at Edinample has been repaired (nice job too). Compliments to Advorlich Farm for excellent hill access & very friendly when we came through. We made good progress on the ascent, SAV having clearly benefited from recent outings, although the clouds tearing across the summit were a cause for concern. However, although the winds got quite strong near the top, things never got quite as bad as we feared. Mindyou, we didn't linger at the top. Up & down in 4 hours. Great shame that the views are now blighted by the windfarm at Braes of Doune. people who said these things would 'enhance' the landscape should come and take a look. And why do they have to be white?"

Fri 10 Nov

Down to London, we go and see The 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre (?) on Piccadilly Circus. Classic Graham Greene, and an excellent production, imaginative use of shadow and light, and “special effects” (e.g. the actors flapping the tails of their coats as they’re stood bent over, to give the illusion of running across the roofs of the train coaches, etc.)

Sat 11 Nov

Mooch around London, gardens in Camden, Senate House, photo exhibition (Russian commander posted in Persia) at SOAS, Mark's 40th birthday party in Greenwich, British Museum.

Sun 12 Nov

British Museum.

Wed 15 Nov

Another walk with Mark, pick up two young walkers and Oakley, their dog, on the way up, snow and fog. Copied from Mark’s site:

Descending, near the top of Schehallion"Winter early this year? Stef & I did Schehallion which was good fun - poor visibility and a couple of inches of snow on the summit. Picked up a couple on the way plus dog looking a little lost but we all got up (and down) OK. 4 1/4 hours."

19 Nov

Visit the Museum of Flight, go on Concorde. Freezing cold day.

20 Nov

Glorious rainbows, visible from our bedroom/study.

24 Nov

Walked along the beach to Tea Rock.
